Thomas Moncrieff (Tammy) was born in Lerwick on 27 February 1916. He trained as a teacher after the second world war, and taught woodwork, navigation and seamanship at Lerwick's Central Public School. He used his boat the Loki in his teaching, was a local compass adjuster, and was a keen promoter of Shetland's heritage and traditions. In 1991 he sailed the boat Swan from Hartlepool to Lerwick, after her purchase by a local trust for training purposes. Thomas Moncrieff died in Lerwick on 12 November 2005.
