Biographical history

Laurence Williamson was born in Fetlar on 11 March 1855 and died in 1936. He was the son of James Williamson and Molly Gardner. The family moved to Linkshouse in Yell and then to Gardie where his father was a merchant and the postmaster. Laurence continued to run the post office after his father's death until 1885. He also worked as a teacher. He was interested in poetry, history, folk-lore, philosophy, genealogy and politics.
