Papers collected by John Graham during his extensive research into the history of education in Shetland. Graham began work on a PhD on this subject in the 1950s but abandoned the project. His research into the subject continued, however, eventually culminating in his volume A Vehement Thirst After Knowledge: Four Centuries of Education in Shetland (Lerwick: Shetland Times, 1998).
