Biographical history

Basil Ramsay Anderson, poet, was born at Wasterhouse, Unst, on 6 August 1861, son of Peter Anderson. He was a pupil teacher at the local school until his widowed mother removed the family to Edinburgh. There Anderson worked in a lawyers office but continued to write poetry, often inspired by his native Shetland. He died on 7 January 1888, aged 26.
